International Treaty on Artificial Intelligence
On September 5, 2024, the European Commission began the signing of the first international treaty on artificial intelligence, which marked an important step in global AI governance. This legally binding Framework Convention on Artificial Intelligence aims to ensure that AI technology respects human rights, democracy and the rule of law in the process of development and application. The treaty requires countries to take measures to prevent the abuse of AI, including discrimination, invasion of privacy and the spread of false information. The convention covers key principles such as transparency, accountability and fairness, and invites non-European countries such as the United States and Australia to participate in signing. The importance of this convention is that it not only applies to AI systems in the public sphere, but also extends to the private sector, especially those working for the government. This will help countries unify the management of AI systems, ensure that technological development is consistent with social values, and avoid its negative impact on the democratic system.
